Teacher Tech Days

Representing the interests of Saskatchewan technology companies with the goal of making Saskatchewan a key technology centre in Canada.

On August 15/16, 2018 Sask Tech is offering educators an opportunity to explore the diverse technology companies in Saskatchewan and their links to the Saskatchewan education curriculum. This is being coordinated with the U of S Computer Science Department and their two day program on August 17/18, 2018.

The purpose of the Tech Tour event is to highlight the tech companies (both hardware and software) in Saskatoon and to provide resources and connections to the industry while highlighting the labor shortage and exciting career opportunities available. The two day event will feature approximately 6 tech companies in Saskatoon with tours at 3 of the locations. Additionally an interactive workshop with Co. Labs, a technology incubator for high tech startups, will go through exercises in a crash course on how to create a tech company. This can be leveraged in the classroom for delivering curriculum and pointing students in the right direction. Following the Co. Labs event a Fresh founders event will feature talk(s) or pitches from local tech companies in the incubator. The in house sessions will feature talks on design thinking for web development and the process of building mobile apps. The group will also hear from Dean Elliott from the Ministry of Education regarding coding in the curriculum and Janet Uchacz-Hart from the Saskatoon Industry Education Council on resources available to teachers through a federal grant that was recently awarded.

Those wishing to obtain first hand programming experience should consider the two day event following the Tech Tour at the U of S Computer Science Department on August 17/18 (To register for one or both events, use the link below)
